It will be a blast! Gerard has talked to a friend who is a pastor there and he said it is awesome. There is a virtual tour of the hotel and the pool and stuff, check that out too.

There are discounts through Mclean for the Holiday Inn that we will be using and the rates are $89.00 a night with a 9% sales tax (per room). We can put as many people in a room as we want. Ticket prices for the event are $20.00 for 5 or more and include lunch on Saturday.

We are having a party to raise money for women in Uganda who cannot afford to feed their families. These women hand make the beads and string them together for you so all you have to do is buy a necklace or bracelet for someone who might like them or for yourself. Remember that Valentine's Day is coming up soon so you guys with girlfriends/wives can get them a gift. When you give that gift to someone and tell them that the proceeds went to an organization that supports something wonderful, its like giving a double gift.

well, i believe most of you know, but for those who have been gone for a while, i have decided to step down from leadership at the edge. first of all, i want to express my deepest gratitude for having the opportunity to serve with you guys for the past 2 years. i have learned a lot, gained a lot of great relationships, and had many memorable experiences (anything with leeboy and food, field days, proms, sitting at shmackies after the service). for the past 6-9 months i have really felt that i have shortchanged the group, with most of my attention going to my studies. the edge needs someone who can focus their attention on pastoral duties as they should. at this point i dont feel as though i can balance all of these things. this has been very difficult to make this decision and to begin to walk it through. you guys mean very very much to me and i will do everything necessary to make the transition smooth.
the church is currently pursuing perspective candidates. they are committed to keeping the group in tact and doing whatever it takes to set everyone at ease.

back to the future

Its back. It seems like we have really been piling on the events here lately, but we still have one more old favorite, the Prom. Friday, August 18th, 7pm at Bay Shore. Last year, our experiment ended very successfully. The highlights included a lot of stonewash, tight rolls, crimped hair, moustaches, and of course, a balloon drop (which took about 4 hours to set up and approximately 2 minutes to destroy - completely). But that was the 80's. This year, as you well know we are going back even farther into the space-time continuum, back to 1956. Sock hops, hopscotch, hula hoops, greasy hair, big cars, and roller skates. We got tickets on sale, and we have a lot of pretty neat stuff planned. We have also opened up the invite to all of the church, so we will need some help. let me know if you can be of assistance. We will start the decorating process on Wed (16th), Thursday (17th), and then some last minute touches on Friday (18th). I have enclosed some inspiration for you.

Basically, we are going to spend Saturday running around Delmarva in search of something. You just dont know what...or at least, not yet. We will probably be starting in the AM (time to be announced soon), breaking up into teams, and then roaming the world. I don't want to give too many details, but I do know that this will be really fun, so mark the ole calendar. If you work during the day, we will be gathering at my parent's home for a pool party at the conclusion of the day, so be there for that. Until then...

ahhh...Leeroy, I remember the first time we met. I thought you were at least 37, but come to find out much younger than I (if you consider 8 months much younger, which I do). Last year, we celebrated pretty good. I think it was trivial pursuit and some ice cream that you brought over for us. And now to complete my online birthday wishes to my unique roommate. Here goes...
even though you have sworn off of the crazy stunts (milk chuggin, punch chuggin, other various assorted drink chuggin), I will still hold all of the mental and physical pics of you throwing up close to my heart. But besides that claim to fame, you also bring other manly hobbies to the table - carpentry, fishing, boating, hapkido, cage fighting, ufc watching, spike tv stallone marathons. thanks for always making fun of my own movie collection and challenging me to become more like you (although i will never watch ung-bok, return of the warrior king). on a serious note, you do challenge us all by showing your love for people so clearly. i have never known anyone so quick to help, or to call 5000 people by the affectionate term "buddy" and mean it. you speak at the right time and keep your mouth shut while others are going to town. and most importantly, you love Jesus. we appreciate you buddy. happy birthday.

thanks so much to Rich (pictured on the left, of course) and Ryan (I couldnt find any pics of Ryan, Andy has stolen all of his pictures from this computer) for speaking the last 2 weeks. Rich finished up our study of Colossians by focusing on prayer and the importance of our lives (actions, deeds, words, conversations, etc.) as a witness. Last night, Ryan piggy-backed off of that and spoke on "Defying the Norm," using Daniel 3 as a framework. As Christians, we have become relaxed, perhaps too relaxed in our interaction and our call to be set apart. Ryan gave a great challenge to us to analyze what we are doing with our lives and why we are doing it.
Really good stuff from both of you guys. I appreciate your willingness.

I would also like to add that Rich made the best strawberry shortcake the world has ever known yesterday.

well, folks. i have finally finished the 2nd (of a proposed 3) post-high school educational endeavor. the masters in in the books. i only have to travel to PA one more time this semester to take the trip down the aisle (unfortunately, it is only a piece of parchment that awaits - not a lovely bride...hopefully she will come before the next diploma...hopefully)

the after effect

well....we did it. although at moments i thought my face would fall off due to frozenness (i do realize that it never even got below 35, but you get the picture). our adventure to trap pond was an absolute blast. fishing, some of the best food i have had in a while (thanks leah's mom and rich's dad and uncle), good talks, a nice warm fire, bike rides...it was great.

thanks to amanda, ashley, leah, and all the others who helped out by bringing things, staying the night, or just stopping by. the mvp award of this weekend, goes to mr. leeboy, the true epitome of sussex county outdoorman -- thanks for all your planning.

sorry for the lack of updating. i aim to get a lot better once school is over...1 more week of classes, then finals, then a piece of paper...then, 5 more years!!! aint school great.

i hope that everyone had a great Easter! Erica and Jim went to PA, and my parents decided to celebrate in Las Vegas (yeah-i know), so i was family-less, but the Plack's opened up their home and allowed me to partake in the finest turkey dinner in the county (which is sure better than my original plan for a ham sandwich in the apartment).

we are in the process of updating again, so things may be sparce around here (as far as updates and posts go), but hopefully, we will keep everyone in the loop.

andy, leroy, and myself are planning a huge magnolia meadows housewarming extravanganza, so keep you ear to the ground and your weekends free. [i had no other pictures to capture the flavor of this post, but it does remind me of the scene with prince john at the archery event looking at his own reflection - anyone know what i am talking about?]

The Lord stretches us, and we are suppose to rejoice. Last night, was a little more difficult than I had imagined. When Bryan was finishing up, and I could sense the last chord coming, it hit me exactly what we were losing (but what Bay Shore was gaining- which is good). I do appreciate that guy. He has left quite an example to follow. Make sure you come out on a Sat night to show him some love (6 pm at BSCC). And if you want one of those snazzy t-shirts let me know.

In other news, I have a new computer (Andy's old one- which means, pictures are a luxury that I cannot afford). My lap top blew up (actually it is just a ac adapter that blew up- lucky for me, they are on back order and will be here in 4-6 WEEKS!).

Transitions: The Edge is looking for talented musicians and a media man/woman to take over possible printed media, commercials, overhead, design work - to be a mini Andy if you will. This is a great small stage to get your feet wet, that could possibly grow into a bigger role. If you are interested send me a note.

Show Your Love - For B-Love

This Sunday, we say goodbye to the man, the myth, the soon to be legend, Bryan "B-Love" Simon. I must say, when I first met him, I was skeptical, but after one week, I was convinced. Beyond his talents and his heart for the Lord, Bryan has encouraged us all through his love for life. I had a roommate who always said, "I need to find my luster for living." Bryan has found it and shared it with all of us. Thanks for your time and for sharing your incredible gifts with us all!
Make sure you come out this Sunday, so we can celebrate and send Bryan out in style. We have a lot of cool things in store, so in the words of Andy, "You bedda be dare." (What announcement is that from?)

March 25 - House Warming/Work Day/Bonfire: Danny and Becca are moving to Laurel (only the greatest town in the world- and my hometown!). Rob and Kate Reinert's homegroup (which is good if you are looking for a homegroup) and The Edge are trying to team up to help the Young's clean up their yard and do some small jobs around their house, then we will party it up, bonfire style. Food, Music, Ministry, and some of the greatest people you'll ever meet will be there. Starts around 2pm for the work, then the fun will follow immediately. (That's Danny and Becca on the right...its ok, they're married!)
April 8 - Work Day at Bay Shore. 8am-12pm. If you are wondering about your potential usefulness, here is some incentive...I've been there before and I could actually help. If I can do it, we can all do it.
April 28-30 - Camping!!!! Let me know if you are interested. I think we found a state park up in the great state of PA. Everything we need and MORE.

So, in the eyes of film critics, Crash is the best movie of the year. I wish that the Oscars weren't only devoted to movies that push social agendas. Of course, it is effective to use theatre/the arts to get your point across (however right or wrong that opinion is), but movies are also about entertainment. Like Napolean Dynamite for example. No agenda, there isn't even a point. Yet, the movie is stinkin funny. Oscar worthy? Yeah. Why? Because, it hooked us all in and gave us lines to quote all year.

S'mores, campfires, Kumbaya (yes, I looked this up to spell it correctly), hiking, trailblazing, bear hunting (just kidding!), prayer, Bible reading, relaxing, fellowship, fresh fish, sleeping on air mattresses, walking 200 feet to a bathroom at 3 am, lakes, trees, cold fresh air in the morning, hot dogs, trail mix, mafia (if we are lucky!), games, eggs, camouflage (had to look that up too)...you get the picture. April 28-30. We will be leaving on Friday, coming back on Sunday afternoonish. If we have enough people we will have a group go up Friday day (get off of work Friday) to set up, then another group who will leave after they get off in the evening. We will try to work around you. I live in a crusty apartment (I would post a pic or 2 but my computer is unknown to the world of high speed...we prefer dial-up). The good news is, my roommate just cleaned...there was a threat that some people might stop by, which is a good thing, unless you live where we do. In our living room, we have a rug, a plastic table, a corduroy couch that used to be white, but now plays itself off as eggshell, probably due to dirt. Until a prank gone bad, in which my other couch was placed in the front yard and later thrown away, it too sat in our living room. It had character. You could see two oil spots where peoples' heads would rest (not mine of course). We also have a weight bench in our living room. Where else would it be? Our kitchen is small enough for one man, as is the laundry room, which doubles as a storage closet (not on purpose though). At one point there were 5 people who lived here, one guy, a 28 year old college senior, wanted to live in our other closet, but we decided it would be more fitting to nail a mattress to a wall with a couple of 2x4's. The paint is falling off the ceiling in the bathroom and conveniently, the toilet stopped working. I feel like a pilgrim when I have to fill up a bucket and dump it into the back of the commode, on top of the old liquor and mountain dew bottles stored in the back (I dont know why, they have been there since we moved in...5 years ago). Indoor plumbing is overrated anyway. My room is pretty nice, though very empty. The only problem is...the molding at the bottom of the wall leaks pretty good so it gets a touch cold at night from October-March (almost made it). I also HAVE to sleep with a fan on, so when I wake up its around 10 below in my room, and to top it off, there are things growing on the walls in my closet, for which reason I have moved out everything that once occupied it. This is the thriving metropolis of Akron PA. This is probably too long, but for all of the college folk in the world, this is our song, our anthem. Dirty apartments and weight benches in the living room, and the occasional roommate living in a storage closet. At least its cheap. And now, I will eat dinner at 9:33. The menu: spaghetti, chocolate milk, and wheat thins.

getting the Word out

Two things:
Number One - We just started a new teaching series last week entitled, "You've Got Mail." (That is Andy's brainchild and Rich's favorite movie) Simply put, we are going to be chugging our way through Paul's letter to the Colossians. Why? because Colossians provides a great foundation for understanding the person and work of Christ (something we should know a little bit about), and how that foundation impacts our lives. You see...doctrine and application do live together.

Number Two - Women on the Edge Bible Study starts this Tuesday (March 7th). Email Amanda for the low down. I imagine there will be some food and some fun and some fellowship, but more importantly, they are going to study the Bible.

Memories burned into our minds

Alright, last post of the day. And this one goes out to all The Edge faithful who have been there through thick and thin.
Memories. Memories are pictures of the past that we have not yet forgotten (even though sometimes we wish we have). They make us smile or bring a tear to our eye. This past year has been filled with many nights of entertainment. Field Day, The Edge 1985 Prom 2005, SuperBowl Parties, New Years Eve, The Big Table Thanksgiving, Movie Nights, Dinners, and various other spontaneous outings. We have laughed together, cried together, and grown closer together as a group as we witnessed things that we never dreamed possible. Memories. Hold them tight, but if you feel them fading away, watch this and be reminded anew. Leroy, we salute you (click here).

Its a House Warmer Dinner

Saturday, March 4th, 7PM in Millsboro. Meg Collins (She's on the left in the huge beach hat next to the not-so-cool man in the glasses known as Tim) is having a dinner/housewarming party. Bring a dish (preferably one with food in it or on it). Email Meg for details/directions, but from what I know, there will be games and food and maybe a free Pilates course after our huge meal. Meg guaranteed that it would "be a real hoot." I'm convinced.

The Greatest Idea Ever

Well...we finally caved, and the primary benefactor is you. This is our attempt to keep up with the advancing technology in the world and to keep everyone informed on important issues like, what are my favorite foods/movies/books, what are we doing on Friday night, what are my views on the Pauline eschatology (maybe not...but if you are interested...).

The website is still up and running (click here to go). The goal is to keep it updated once a month, which is just enough to add photo galleries, keep you informed on the teachings of The Edge, give general info about the service, and keep it interesting. But in the meantime, we hope this site will provide a sounding board for all of us to stay in touch, be challenged in our faith, and to grow closer together. So, keep your ear to the grindstone, add a comment, and get the conversation rolling.
